ACORD-Express: Dado joint |
The aim is to check the constructive provisions and the strength criteria of a dado joint (junction point and flank compressions, heel axial shear, strength of anti-debonding reinforcement, reduced cross-section).
In first instance, you choose the configuration to be studied depending on the continuity of the piece with rebate and on the symmetry of the joint.
Four cases are then distinguished that we will term according to their position in a traditional truss: main rafter to tie-beam joint, bracing to main rafter joint, main bracing or tie-beam to main rafter joint, king post to bracing joint and bracing to king post joint.
Then, regarding the type of dado joints, are available: simple dado joint, inversed dado joint, rear and simple dado joint with heel. Please note that simple dado joints can have perpendicular ending or cut in two the angle made by the two members. |

Then, in case of risk of debonding of the joint (risk detected by the software), you have the possibility to install reinforcement of various types depending on the joint type. The following reinforcement systems are available: reinforcement by 1 to 2 straight or inclined bolts or a reinforcement by 2 to 6 nails with tongue and groove. |
In any case, you must complete the input data with:
- Environmental parameters (moister content, …)
- Wood category
- Dimensions of the dado joint and of the members (height, width, groove depth, burring, clearance, etc.)
- Loads (up to 10 loads, each criterion will be determined on the envelop of the defined load cases)
| Overview on the design report |
The created design report for the elementary strength checks has the following sections:
- Loading parameter definition
- Definition of parameters and coefficients regarding the material and the environment (strength, partial coefficients, modification coefficients, etc.)
- Definition of the dimensions of the members and dado joint
- Definition of the reinforcing system when present
- Check of the bolt/nail spacing
- Check of the compression strength at the junction point and at the flank, and check of the shear strength in the heel
- Check of the strength of the reinforcing system
- Check of the reduced cross-section.
