ACORD-Express: Check of elementary strength portions of variable section   ACORD-Express: Check of elementary strength portions of variable section
The aim is to check in current situation and in standard fire situation the strength of a portion of a variable section beam subjected to an in-plane load.
General input data
In first instance, you choose the configuration to be considered: tapered portion with simple decrease, portion with two-way decrease, curved portion or variable inertia portion.

In any case, you must complete the input data with:
  • Wood category
  • Geometry and dimensions of the beam portion
  • Loading (axial load, shear load, bending moment)

Regarding standard fire situations, you can specify the number of exposed faces (1 to 4), the flame direction, the number of protected faces (0 to 4), the position and the properties of the protections and the design time for fire resistance.
Overview on the design report
The created design report has the following sections:
  • Loading parameter definition
  • Definition of parameters and coefficients regarding the material and the environment (strength, partial coefficients, modification coefficients, etc.)
  • Definition of the dimensions and properties of the beam portion
  • Stresses applied and design criteria (according to the normal, shear, and normal tension stresses) with corresponding equations.

Regarding the standard fire situation, the properties provided are the properties of the reduced cross-section. Furthermore, the initial section, the charred section and the position of exposed faces are drawn to scale to allow complete check of the data and results.
