ALIZE-LCPC: Freezing-Thaw
ALIZE-LCPC software includes two checking methods against freezing-thaw: a simplified method (1994 Guide) and a complete method (Fourier method).
This second approach calls the GEL1D computation module that predicts the evolution of the freezing fringe in the road structure. This method produces more accurate results than the simplified method.

The freezing module of ALIZE-LCPC is completed by various tools for the analysis according to the LCPC-SETRA method. Checking against freezing-thaw cycles is achieved by comparing:

  • the atmospheric freezing index chosen as the reference index IR (characteristic of the winter severity)
  • and the admissible atmospheric freezing index that the road can endure, termed admissible freezing index IA.
