This training course is designed for beginner in the calculation by finite element method. The participant will be able to use CESAR-LCPC in his field of activity: geotechnics, structure, hydrogeology.

Finite element method computation
Goal: Modeling a problem and interpreting results

This training course lasts three days and is designed to enable the participant to use CESAR-LCPC in his/her field of specialization (geotechnical engineering, structures, etc.)
Modeling two-dimensional or three-dimensional structures in the CESAR-LCPC framework
  • Generating the 2D or 3D structural mesh,
  • Processing mesh zones as being either active or inactive on the basis of the adopted construction method,
  • Assigning materials elastic behavior, elastoplastic behavior, thermal behavior, …
  • Defining boundary conditions in terms of displacements, temperature, …
  • Creating loading cases that are either independent or correlated with a preceding computation result (excavation forces, initial stresses, etc.),
  • Setting up an iterative convergence routine for solving non-linear problems.
Mastering and utilizing model output
  • Verifying the successful execution of computations,
  • Querying results: displacements, stresses, temperatures at any point of the model,
  • Displaying plastified material zones, along with the displacement, stress and temperature isovalues, etc.
  • Conducting use-related verifications on the consistency of results obtained,
  • Testing model sensitivity on the basis of both the mesh and the set of selected computation conditions.
